I recall James May talking about this many TG episodes ago, but people seem to forget that on the world racing stage, you used to be able to identify what race teams (not the car makes) were from what country based on their colors. I knew the big ones above, but never picked up on the other countries' colors. Check out the story on !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! .

I remember telling my PE teacher in High School why the Australian sports colours were green and gold and he said I was full of shit and made me do extra laps. (he thought it was related to British Racing Green)

the Australian Cricket team had been using the colours since as early as 1899 or something, and the Australian Olympic team had it as early as 1908.

British Racing Green has some history as early as 1905 with , but wasn't really a 'British' thing until the 20's.

As far as I'm aware, the first use of Green and Gold on cars was Brabham, and that was the 1960's, there was some ties to BRG because the team was based in England, but the usage had been pretty common by that point.

also, he was Canadian exchange teacher so I have no idea what was up his arse. Maybe it was too hot for him.

The other PE teachers were allright. I remember one of them taught our music class once and everything thought he was just a sports teacher. He was a massive Van Halen fan. He brought in his own Frankenstrat and spent the whole lesson jamming with us.
